The Bronx Workshops are conceived as a loft building for the light industrial arts. The project generates both spatial and visual relationships among various light industrial trades and workshops through internal transparency. Interior voids/shafts and a south facade buffer zone are utilized as two main strategies that generate and emphasize this concept. Internal transparency introduces a lightness and openness to a space often associated with heaviness while simultaneously creating space that acts as a medium in which responsible design strategies generate a delicate yet productive balance between interior and exterior.
